Finding New History

Bookmark and Share

I’m working on a documentary, and as I get deeper into the topic I’ve come to appreciate how history gets made every day. It’s not just events in the distant past.

One of the best resources I’ve found for new history is the Kansas Music Hall of Fame. Bill Lee is the president, and he seems to be super connected with anyone of note in the area. People send him tips, and as a result, you’ll find information you won’t get anywhere else.

Just a few examples:

  • Norm Dahlor of the The Elders reveals that the band is going to Ireland in May  2011, and some sort of fan package will be available. There does not yet appear to be any information on the Elder’s site.
  • If you’re a Kansas fan, Kerry Livgren’s neighbor provided an update on Livgren’s recovery from a stroke last year and included a picture of him in the studio.
  • Kelley Hunt has wrapped up sessions in Nashville for a new record. You can find this on her web site, but the hall’s information is deeper, including a tentative release date (Nov. 16) and the session musicians (lots of Nashville’s A-list players).

Highly recommended, and worth a visit every couple of weeks to see if there’s anything new.
